Coalinga State Hospital Has Been Completed!
On July 1, 2005 the construction of Coalinga State Hospital was completed and turned over to the Department of Mental Health. The new state-of-the-art facility is currently being staffed and stocked with supplies and equipment in preparation to receive its first patients in early September.
Coalinga State Hospital Dedication Ceremony and Open House
Coalinga State Hospital held its Dedication Ceremony and Open House on August 24, 2005. The Official Dedication Ceremony, beginning at 10:00 a.m. had approximately 370 attendees with a mix of 100 invitees and 270 staff, and the Open House beginning at 1:00 p.m. toured over 1,300 guests throughout the facility.; Tours included the Auditorium – Grand Meeting Room, Visiting, 2 Libraries, Barbershop, Patient Store, Union Square Grill, Post Office, Dining Rooms, 2 Chapels, Vocational Program Services, Pharmacy, Main Courtyard, Sports Courtyard, Gym, Treatment Units, Nursing Station, Receiving & Release, Medical Clinic including Physical Therapy, Dental Suite, Radiology, Neurological and Pathology Services, Optometry, Audiology, Urgent Care, and Infirmary.

Speakers and invited guests at the Dedication Ceremony included Senator Dean Florez, Congressman Jim Costa, City of Coalinga Mayor Ron Lander, Coalinga State Hospital Executive Director Tom Voss, Long Term Care Services Deputy Director John Rodriguez, and Department of Mental Health Director Stephen W. Mayberg, Ph.D. Directly following the official ceremonies, the facility was opened to the public for tours.
Coalinga State Hospital Activation Team
CSH has grown to more than 400 staff members and it is anticipating another 400 staff for the September 2005 opening. Another 450 staff are scheduled for hire between September 2005 and January 2006. The hiring focus in the next few months will be those areas which are necessary functions to activate the Hospital. Some key hiring areas include medical, psychiatric, nursing and hospital police officer staff.
