The Adult and Older Adult Programs and Policy Unit provides analysis, direction, and oversight for a range of policy initiatives, programs, and projects related to mental health services for adults and older adults.

The passage of Proposition 63, The Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) in November 2004 merged many of the programs and concepts that the Systems of Care Adult and Older Adult Program Policy Unit helped develop in preceding years. Many AOAPP models transformed from Demonstration Projects to permanent programs with the support of MHSA funds and federal program funding.

The California Department of Mental Health administers a number of programs for adults.  The programs’ services are directly provided at the local level by counties and their contract providers. To find local mental health services, contact your local county mental health agency .
