SUICIDE PREVENTION PLAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Governor Schwarzenegger directed the Health and Human Services Agency and the California Department of Mental Health (DMH), to develop a statewide plan for suicide prevention, which is due to the Governor on May 1, 2008. DMH recruited a group of diverse individuals with experience in suicide prevention to participate in a Suicide Prevention Plan Advisory Committee. The Committee is comprised of Individuals representing constituency organizations throughout California, as well as public participants.

Programs
Student Mental Health Initiative -
In June 2007, the Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission (MHSOAC) approved a total of $60 million for a Student Mental Health Initiative (SMHI)in response to the tragedy at Virginia Tech. The purpose of the Initiative is to strengthen student mental health and prevent similar catastrophic events. In September 2007, the MHSOAC approved the Student Mental Health Initiative Proposal
, which describes the Initiative's K-12 and Higher Education components and funding.
