Ed Foulk Appointed as Napa State Hospital Executive Director

SACRAMENTO -- California Department of Mental Health Director Stephen W. Mayberg, Ph.D., has announced the appointment of Edward Foulk as Executive Director for Napa State Hospital, effective March 12.

Foulk is replacing Dave Graziani, who retired in December after 32 years at the hospital. Foulk most recently worked for the California Department of Mental Health as the Chief of Program, Policy and Fiscal Support. Prior to that, he held positions as chief executive officer and chief operating officer of private community acute psychiatric hospitals, including CPC Horizon Hospital and Clinic in Pomona, and CPC Alhambra Psychiatric Hospital in Rosemead.

"Ed's strong management experience, both in the private and public sector, has prepared him for the responsibilities of managing Napa State Hospital," said Dr. Mayberg. "I am positive he will continue to do a fine job for the employees and the patients under the care of the hospital."

Foulk will oversee a staff of more than 2,300 employees who provide clinical, administrative and support services for the daily activities of the hospital and treatment of more than 1,100 patients who reside at the hospital.

"The employees of Napa State Hospital are extremely dedicated to providing quality patient care services," Foulk said. "I look forward to building collaborative relationships with the staff, community, and our stakeholders.

" Founded in 1875, Napa State Hospital is one of five hospitals in the State's mental health system and is the only state hospital for mentally ill individuals in Northern California. Located on 138 acres in the City of Napa, the hospital provides mental health services to individuals who are civilly committed by county mental health departments and judicially committed by the courts.

The hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and is licensed by the Department of Health Services.
