PATTON STATE HOSPITAL APPOINTS DR. JOSEPH MALANCHARUVIL AS CLINICAL ADMINISTRATOR
PATTON – Patton State Hospital Executive Director Octavio C. Luna has announced the appointment of Joseph Malancharuvil, Ph.D., as clinical administrator of Patton State Hospital. Dr. Malancharuvil will be responsible for the administrative and clinical management of all treatment programs for approximately 1,500 civilly and judicially committed adults with mental illness.
“I am looking forward to Dr. Malancharuvil joining our executive management team," Luna said. "He is an ardent advocate of instilling hope and initiating recovery movement, even in severely ill individuals."
Dr. Malancharuvil began his state career at Patton State Hospital in 1997 as a staff psychologist and promoted to chief of psychology in 2001. Prior to working at Patton, he had established a distinguished and broad academic background and 30 years of experience working with individuals suffering from serious mental illness.
He received his masters in psychology from Maharaja Sayaji Rao University of Boroda in 1972 and his doctorate in clinical psychology from Loyola University of Chicago in 1982. His professional titles include fellow, American Academy of Clinical Psychology, and diplomat, American Board of Professional Psychology.
As a master clinician, Dr. Malancharuvil has been training and consulting with mental health workers throughout the state. He serves as a consultant to several mental health organizations and maintains a limited independent practice in the community.
The mission of Patton State Hospital is to empower the more than 1,500 civilly and judicially committed individuals to recover from mental illness utilizing recovery principles and evidence-based practices within a safe, structured and secure environment.
